The smaller caves, known as viharas, served as resting places for monks, while the larger caves, called chaityas, are adorned with intricately carved Buddhist sculptures and were used for worship. The drive to Kanheri Caves takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your hotel's location and traffic conditions.
