Lakes and Beaches
The Tansa Lake is located in Thane district, 90 Kms north of Mumbai. This fresh water lake is a part of the Tansa wild life sanctuary. The sanctuary encompasses an area of 216.75 sq km and you can see tigers, panthers, sambars, cheetas, barking deers, wild boars, jackals, common langurs and bonnet macaques. Tansa Lake is one of the largest lakes in this region and has a capacity of 3 million gallons of water. It is one of the main sources of drinking water to Mumbai. As the lake is not very far from the city, it is a charming place for a day excursion.
